Dubai Future Foundation reviews 14 global opportunities to enhance cooperation in designing the future of humanity

Dubai, December 26 / WAM / The Dubai Future Foundation launched a recent report entitled “Global Solutions for a Shared Future” in a special edition of its knowledge report “Future Opportunities Report: 50 Global Opportunities” that addresses 14 diverse opportunities that can be turned into a tangible reality in serving the common future of humanity.

These opportunities were chosen out of 200 opportunities that were discussed in the “50 Global Opportunities” reports over the last four years (2022-2025) with the aim of introducing the latest trends and future opportunities in order to enhance the path of imagining, designing and implementing the future globally, by combining human imagination, cognitive perceptions, scientific data and practical solutions.

The Dubai Future Foundation prepared the report “Global Solutions for a Shared Future” with the participation of a group of experts, researchers, innovators and research institutions from the UAE, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, Switzerland, India and others.

Participants contributed by providing their views on these opportunities mentioned in the report, pointing out the factors that support them and the foundations on which they are based, in addition to the expected time frame for their realization.

Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, stressed that this report constitutes a distinguished collaborative effort that reflects the importance of international partnerships in innovating future solutions based on the urgent need to overcome current and emerging challenges and translate opportunities into a reality that empowers future generations.

He said that the Dubai Future Foundation continues to cooperate with international experts in anticipating and designing the future based on Dubai’s pioneering position, which has become a global center for activating future opportunities and an international platform for joint cooperation in opening new horizons in it, and building consensus on global solutions that constitute a guarantee for a better future for human societies and human civilization.

He added that the “Global Solutions for a Shared Future” report highlights the promising future opportunities that constitute a common global path between countries. Our common future depends on our ability to work together, as we transcend traditional barriers between countries and sectors and direct cooperation efforts with wisdom and a clear vision, to pave the way for a new era of growth, prosperity, and quality of life.

The solutions proposed by the report cover 10 major global trends: redefining humanitarian goals, making data available to everyone without borders and in multiple dimensions, automation and coexistence with autonomous robots, accelerating the transition to a new digital reality, the development of energy technologies, the growth of independent business economies, increasing interest in advanced health and nutrition, increasing biological and technological gaps, the development of ecosystems, and the materials revolution.

The “Global Solutions for a Shared Future” report reviewed 14 solutions that constituted a summary of the ideas and experiences of scientists, innovators and experts in various specializations that intersected with each other in order to design a common, prosperous future for humanity.

The list of proposed solutions included the possibility of developing a set of unified global goals in the coming years to protect space and ensure its availability to all without causing an increase in space debris or harming the space environment. This represents an essential step to preserve space as a shared resource for future generations.

The report proposed creating a global equity fund that addresses humanity’s greatest long-term challenges by combining transparent, decentralized governance with multilateral development bank capital to scale ground-breaking innovations in climate, energy, food and water security.

The report stressed the importance of designing a new global system for classifying countries that relies on innovative dynamic measures, including the size of the cooperation networks that countries build and the influential partnerships that they lead, instead of being satisfied with traditional standards based on development and income rates. This approach aims to enhance international cooperation, improve the flow of resources, and provide innovative paths to achieve common global goals.

The report stated that developing a global genetic charter and developing a common framework for the use of gene therapies requires efforts that extend across multiple levels, starting from individuals and research institutions, to regional and international frameworks, all the way to the international level. Given the complexity of this task and the depth of its ethical and regulatory implications, this work is likely to extend over decades, with gradual progress accompanied by increasing international consensus on standards and governing frameworks.

The report stressed that the time has come to develop a centenary plan for the development of planet Earth, implemented within a long-term vision to improve the lives of the peoples of the world. To achieve this, there is a need for a global framework of cooperation that continues across generations and aims to restore and protect ecosystems and enhance biodiversity.

The report indicated the cooperation of international working groups to review and extract ideas and insights from current global legal precedents related to areas witnessing transformational changes such as climate, quality of life and digital worlds using advanced machine intelligence, in anticipation of their future scenarios, which enhances global cooperation and the ability to adapt and limits ambiguous variables in this world in which borders fade.

The report also stated that achieving climate neutrality and net zero emissions is no longer an unattainable goal in light of the unprecedented technical achievements and global cooperation. If this goal becomes a reality, environmental systems will regain their balance, and new systems capable of resilience will emerge.

The report also discussed a promising opportunity represented by reaching an international treaty that allows startups and small companies to obtain a unified commercial license valid to operate in multiple countries.

The report’s opportunities also include the establishment of local innovation centers linked to global networks that contribute to expanding the scope of innovations of economically marginalized communities, and enable local creativity to inspire sustainable development and enhance its impact in confronting international challenges.

The report stressed the importance of adopting innovative methods to measure the quality of human life that provide new horizons for understanding happiness, focusing on personal growth, building deep relationships, and striving to achieve common goals, within sustainable community environments, advanced technical capabilities, and learning based on a love of exploring life in its deeper meanings.

This opportunity proposes the development of a framework and toolkit for artificial intelligence to be used as a public good in the form of public goods and services available to all members of society, made available to all without discrimination and directed to applications that serve the public good in the areas of climate change, food security, health care and sustainable development.

According to the report, rapid developments in the field of satellites and advanced artificial intelligence will allow all the world’s population to access the Internet smoothly and with high efficiency, enhancing the spread of the Internet of Things and reducing network disruptions by enabling intelligent migration between cellular networks and space infrastructure.

The report emphasized that combining formal international cooperation with tools for anticipating the future and planning scenarios can reshape modern diplomacy, by integrating future analysis into global negotiation and decision-making processes, thus enhancing the ability to address common challenges before they occur.

The report also stated that an incentive system could be created that encourages individuals to share their data to be collected and processed through a safe and reliable platform. Through this platform, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy makers can access vast amounts of aggregated and anonymized data, and analyze it in ways that reveal patterns and open broad areas for innovation, learning, and discovery.

The list of experts participating in the preparation of the special issue “Global Solutions for a Shared Future” included Habiba Al Marashi, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Environment Working Group from the United Arab Emirates, Deborah Barros Leal Farias, Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales – Sydney from Australia, Rufus Pollock, founder of the Open Knowledge Foundation from the United Kingdom, Sarah Hooker, President of Cohere Laboratories in the United States, and Sulaiman Al Ali, Chief Commercial Officer of Space42.
