Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Hospital in Al-Khobar ended the suffering of a female patient in her seventh decade who suffered a stroke, which caused her many severe complications, most notably general weakness in the upper and lower limbs on the right side of the body and memory loss. This was explained by Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Abd Al-Wahab, Consultant in Interventional Radiology and head of the treating medical team.
He added that the patient arrived at the hospital in an emergency situation, and during the clinical examination it was found that she had a problem understanding others and stuttering in speech, in addition to weakness in the hands, numbness in the face, and a severe headache. She was immediately subjected to a package of examinations with computed tomography (CT scan) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the entire head, and tests. Laboratory.
Explaining that the results of the tests revealed the presence of severe narrowings in the neck arteries, and that these blockages are responsible for the strokes that occurred during the review, in addition to chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Immediately, a medical team was formed from consultants in interventional radiology, neurology, and anesthesia, and it was decided to intervene using advanced catheterization techniques.
Dr. Al-Abdulwahab said that the catheterization process took 40 minutes, where the narrowed arteries in the neck were identified, and an expansion of all of those arteries was performed and an advanced stent was placed, using interventional radiology techniques and medical tools designated for such cases, until the blood flow returned to its normal work, after which the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) and placed under Intensive care.
Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Abd Al-Wahab confirmed that the efforts of the medical team were crowned with success, praise be to God, as the medical condition of the review began to gradually improve and she was discharged after several days from the hospital and she is in good health.
