The Arqoub Al Sedira race concludes the tenth edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship competitions
Dubai, 7 February / WAM / Under the patronage and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai will organize, tomorrow, Sunday, the “Arqoob Al Sadeera” race, which is the final race of the competitions of the tenth edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, which is the largest of its kind, as it will extend from the Al Samha area in Abu Dhabi all the way to Saih Al Salam in Dubai, for a distance of 100 km.
The importance of this race comes from the fact that it embodies an important journey in our rich national history, which is the Arqoob Al Sedira meeting, which embodies a bright page in the history of our beloved country, as the meeting recorded the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brother Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may God bless them, to establish the federation. The meeting of Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, may God have mercy on them, was on February 18, 1968 in Arqoub Al Sedira between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It was a notable day not only at the level of the Seven Emirates or the Trucial Emirates “at that time”, but at the level of the entire Arab nation, and this meeting formed the solid basic building block upon which the Union of the Emirates was established.
His Excellency Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, confirmed that this final race, which was added in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, comes ideally to conclude the tenth session of the Ladder Cycling Championship, by holding a race that enhances the integrated efforts in the United Arab Emirates to promote and spread the sport, by starting the race from Abu Dhabi all the way to Dubai, in a message It confirms the depth of joint efforts to support members of the community and motivate them to practice cycling, and to benefit from the paths that the government has developed, which currently allows for transportation by bicycle from Abu Dhabi to Dubai with ease.
He added, “Cycling sports in the country are witnessing their most prosperous periods, as races are diverse and the calendar of events witnesses numerous tournaments throughout the year within a framework of integration between sports and national institutions, which contributes to developing the sport, raising the levels of national riders, and celebrating their levels and achievements.”
The Supreme Organizing Committee approved financial prizes amounting to 700,000 dirhams, which is considered the most expensive in the world for this type of road race for local bicycles, provided that the race includes 4 main categories,
They are: professionals, male club players, male amateurs, female professionals, female club players, and amateurs, provided that the financial prizes include rewards according to age groups as well, in order to encourage all riders to participate from the age of 18 years old to over 66 years old.
The race is being held in cooperation with entities, most notably the Ministry of Interior, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Dubai Sports Council, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, the Dubai Police General Headquarters, the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, in addition to the rest of the strategic partners, namely: Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Government Media Office, the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, the Dubai Sports Channel, and the UAE Federation. This race comes to conclude a busy season within the tenth season of the Ladder Cycling Championship, which began last December with the holding of the “Security and Safety” race designated for Emirati riders in cooperation with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, followed by the “His Highness the Ruler’s Court of Dubai” race, which began for the second year in a row from the Court of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai all the way to the Al Marmoom Reserve with the participation of the brightest professional riders, then the women’s race that was held in the Al Marmoom Reserve with international participation, and the women’s desert race was also held.
