Abu Dhabi Police organizes a dialogue session on the dangers of drugs and the shared responsibility to confront them

Al Ain, February 19 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Police General Command, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Councils in the Office of Citizens and Community Affairs in the Presidential Office, organized a dialogue session entitled “The Safe Family… Preventing and protecting society from drugs is a shared national responsibility,” at the Shaab Al Ashkhar Council in Al Ain, in the presence of a number of residents of the region and community members, and with the participation of members of the “We Are All Police” program at the Community Police Department, coinciding with the initiatives of the Year of the Family 2026, as part of its efforts. Continuing efforts to enhance preventive security and establish a culture of shared social responsibility.
Colonel Dr. Ali Salem Al-Esayi, Deputy for Operations Affairs at Zakher Center, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to enhance the level of security awareness among community members, based on its responsibility to support community security and stability, and to consolidate the concepts of prevention and shared responsibility, noting that community councils represent an important platform for direct dialogue with the public and discussion of the most prominent challenges and issues that affect the family.
He highlighted a number of negative behaviors and practices that may threaten the security and safety of society, including electronic crimes, modern fraud methods, misuse of social media, and non-compliance with regulations and laws, stressing that security awareness is the first line of defense in the face of risks and challenges, and is not limited to transferring information, but rather extends to building real awareness that enables the individual to protect himself, his family, and his community.
He explained that Abu Dhabi Police implements ongoing awareness programs in schools and social media, aiming to provide support and guidance to families, and to promote positive values and social responsibility, which contributes to preparing a conscious generation that realizes that security is a shared responsibility, and that awareness is the most powerful weapon to confront any threat.
Colonel Mohammed Salim Al Ameri, Deputy Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Al Ain Region, spoke about the pivotal role of the family in building society and maintaining the behavior of its members, to prevent young people and adolescents from falling into the clutches of addiction, stressing the importance of awareness councils in spreading awareness of the harms of smoking and drugs, and strengthening partnership with society to achieve the message of safety and security.
During the session, he discussed the scourge of drugs, their types, causes of addiction, and the most prominent legislation and laws related to combating them. He warned against promotional messages for narcotic substances and psychotropic substances through social media, which target the youth group and threaten their future.
He stressed the importance of the role of the family as the first line of defense to prevent this scourge, through positive communication with children, spending time with them, and listening to them, in a way that enhances their confidence and responsibility towards themselves and their country.
He reviewed the plans, programs and educational campaigns organized by the Narcotics Control Department throughout the year to address the drug problem, its negative effects and ways to prevent it. He briefed the attendees on the “A Chance of Hope” initiative, which provides facilities that encourage drug users to take the initiative to seek treatment in complete confidentiality, through the Abu Dhabi Police website or smart application, as part of its humanitarian efforts to help this group.
At the conclusion of the council, the speakers called on the attendees to report any suspicious cases or practices, and to cooperate with the competent authorities in order to preserve the security and stability of society, stressing the importance of the combined efforts of institutions and individuals to educate society about the dangers of drug abuse and promotion, and to report through the communication channels provided by Abu Dhabi Police, including “Aman” on the number 8002626, in a way that contributes to protecting the family, strengthening community cohesion, and preserving the nation’s gains.
