Repercussions of the war: 45 million people may join the cycle of food insecurity

It pointed out that the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia are the most vulnerable, due to their high dependence on On food and fuel imports, anticipating an increase of 21% in the number of affected people in West and Central Africa, 17% in East and South Africa, and 24% in Asia.

The program pointed out that Sudan imports about 80% of its wheat needs, which makes the rise in prices of this basic commodity an additional factor pushing more families into hunger, while Somalia, which is suffering from severe drought, recorded an increase of no less than 20% in the prices of some basic commodities since the start of the conflict.

The program confirmed that the two countries face high levels of food insecurity, and have witnessed famines in recent years, warning that the worsening of food insecurity in the absence of additional resources may herald a disaster in a number of the world’s most fragile countries, which are already facing the threat of famine.
