The UAE participates in the first ceremony to award the European Order of Merit in Strasbourg
Strasbourg, May 19 / WAM / His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council, participated in the first ceremony for awarding the “European Order of Merit”, which was organized by the European Parliament for the first time at its headquarters in Strasbourg, in honor of prominent figures who contributed to strengthening the process of European integration, defending democracy, and consolidating European values.
His Excellency’s attendance at this event comes within the framework of the official visit made by the Federal National Council delegation to the European Parliament, which reflects the Council’s keenness to strengthen bridges of parliamentary communication with European institutions, and to engage in events of an institutional and symbolic nature that reflect the status of the European Parliament and its role in the European political space.
The ceremony, which was held in the plenary session hall of the European Parliament, witnessed the presence of His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, in his capacity as the only President of the Arab Parliament participating in this event, along with a number of prominent European leaders and figures, members of the European Parliament, and representatives of European institutions and the media, where a number of figures who had a prominent impact in supporting European unity and promoting common values were honored.
The presence of His Excellency the President of the Federal National Council on this occasion emphasized the importance of the UAE-European parliamentary relations, and the UAE’s keenness to expand paths of dialogue and cooperation with the European Parliament in a way that serves common interests and enhances the values of openness, understanding and mutual respect between peoples and legislative institutions.
This attendance also reflected the Federal National Council’s appreciation of the institutional role played by the European Parliament as an important platform for international parliamentary dialogue, and an opportunity to enhance communication with European parliamentary and political leaders, in a context that goes beyond official bilateral meetings to interaction with European occasions with political and symbolic connotations.
The European Order of Merit is the first official distinction of its kind awarded by a European Union institution, and aims to honor individuals who have made influential contributions to the path of European integration, strengthening democracy, and defending European values.
Participating in the ceremony were His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee, His Excellency Sarah Muhammad Falaknaz, Dr. Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, and Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, members of the Federal National Council, Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General, Afra Rashid Al Basti, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communications, and Tariq Ahmed Al-Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs.
