Closing of the first edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Excellence Awards 2026

Ras Al Khaimah, May 23 / WAM / The inaugural edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Award for Excellence in University Research and Innovation, “Ras Al Khaimah Excellence Awards 2026”, organized by the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, was concluded after attracting 189 entries from 20 universities from various parts of the United Arab Emirates.

94 projects from 12 leading universities were shortlisted for the final evaluation.

The Ras Al Khaimah Excellence Awards highlighted innovative and pioneering student-led projects, which were evaluated, refined and advanced through a transparent, merit-based and impact-based process. The Awards were established as a dynamic national platform in which ideas turn into solutions, research into tangible impact, and innovation into a catalyst for sustainable growth.

Professor Khaled Hussein, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University, said: The American University of Ras Al Khaimah is proud to launch the Ras Al Khaimah Excellence Awards, which celebrate innovation, creativity, research excellence, and the outstanding achievements of students and faculty members from universities and higher education institutions nationwide.

The first place in the Bachelor’s Projects category across all axes was won by a team from Abu Dhabi University in the final national competition for its project “Hope: An emotional, educational, palliative and clinical support system powered by artificial intelligence for children’s cancer and oncology patients,” while the United Arab Emirates University came in runner-up with its project “Multiple Sustainable Waste for Advanced Thermal and Fire Resistant Applications,” and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah with its project “An Autonomous Drone System for Repairing Wind Turbine Blades on Site” came in runner-up.

In the Bachelor’s category, according to the themes, the winners were from the United Arab Emirates University “Sustainability, Economy and Environment”, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah “Innovation and Technology”, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah “Digital Transformation”, Abu Dhabi University “Energy and Climate”, Abu Dhabi University “Health Care, Social Sciences and Life Sciences”, and the United Arab Emirates University “Advanced Materials”.

As for the graduate studies category, according to the themes, the winners were from the United Arab Emirates University (Sustainability, Economy and Environment), the United Arab Emirates University (Innovation and Technology), and Khalifa University in four different categories: digital transformation, energy and climate, health care, social sciences and life sciences, and advanced materials.

Participating universities included Khalifa University, United Arab Emirates University, Abu Dhabi University, University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, Ajman University, Fujairah University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Umm Al Quwain University, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Sterling University – Ras Al Khaimah branch, and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah.
