Public appearances are no longer advisable for Iranian officials

US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, revealed before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee the nature of the current diplomatic channels with Tehran and Washington’s assessment of the Iranian internal situation and its decision-making centers.
The US Secretary of State explained the scenes of diplomatic communication, saying that “all communications and interactions with the Iranians took place in writing and through intermediaries,” noting at the same time that there was a slowdown in the Iranian mechanism, as he stated that “obtaining a response from Iran may take more than 6 days.”
In his assessment of the Iranian internal situation in light of the current circumstances, the US Secretary affirmed before members of Congress that “all the problems that Iran was suffering from before the war not only remained in place… but also got worse.”
Rubio also hinted at the existence of security and political arrangements or concerns surrounding the leaders in Tehran, considering that “extensive public appearances may no longer be advisable for Iranian officials.”
In a context related to the issue of leadership and the transfer of power, the US Secretary of State revealed that Washington is monitoring new movements in the Iranian power hierarchy, stressing that “there are indications that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has begun to become increasingly involved in the work.”
