UNDP – The value of building damage in Beirut and Mount Lebanon exceeds $365 million

This came in the context of a rapid damage assessment carried out by the program in coordination with the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon and in cooperation with the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Department of Safety and Security. The evaluation relied on geographic artificial intelligence techniques, satellite image analysis, in addition to field verification operations, to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data.
The results of the assessment showed a clear concentration of damage in a number of areas in the southern suburb of Beirut, most notably Haret Hreik, Hadath, Chiyah, Burj el-Barajneh, Al-Laylaki, and Choueifat-Amrousieh.
The program said that the assessment provides an initial information base that supports national agencies and partners in setting priorities and directing recovery and reconstruction efforts in a more effective and sustainable manner, thus contributing to accelerating the return of affected communities to their normal lives.
