From genetics to medications… common causes of hair loss

Many people suffer from hair loss to varying degrees during their lives, and it often begins to appear in adulthood, but it may sometimes appear in adolescence, which may have a greater impact on the psychological state and self-confidence of young people.
According to what was reported by the “Healthline” website, which specializes in health, the causes of hair loss in adolescents are multiple, the most prominent of which are genetic factors, such as androgenetic alopecia, known as male or female baldness, which appears in a gradual and predictable pattern, starting with a receding hairline in men or thinning hair in women.
Alopecia areata is also a common cause. It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss in the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or other areas of the body, and it often appears at an early age.
Other causes include malnutrition resulting from a lack of essential nutrients or eating disorders, such as a deficiency of iron, zinc, and various vitamins, which negatively affects the health and density of hair.
Thyroid disorders also play an important role, as an imbalance in the secretion of hormones can lead to general hair thinning, with the possibility of improving the condition after receiving appropriate treatment.
Lupus is also one of the immune diseases that may cause hair loss, along with polycystic ovary syndrome in women, which is linked to an increase in male hormones and leads to hormonal disorders and hair loss.
In addition, some medications and medical treatments, such as depression medications, anticoagulants, and chemotherapy, may cause hair loss as a side effect.
It is also not excluded the effect of external factors such as dyes and repeated chemical treatments, or excessive exposure to heat and chlorine, which may weaken the hair and increase its breakage, although these cases are often temporary and the hair returns to growth after stopping the cause.
