Seven survivors found days after a ship sank in Indonesia
Declared Indonesian rescue services Sunday rescued two survivors from Ship sinking accident: They arrived at a remote island on board a raft, the day after rescuing five other passengers who had been lost at sea for three days.
The ship, which was carrying approximately 80 passengers, sank off the coast of Sulawesi Island, about fifty of them were rescued on Thursday.
Rudimentary Raft
On Sunday, rescuers found a man and a woman on a small, uninhabited island, which they had managed to reach by clinging to a makeshift raft.
The two survivors reported that four other people who were with them did not survive.
Mohamed Arif Anwar, a local official in Search and rescue teams, told Agence France-Presse, saying "Some got tired and could no longer cling to the raft, so they ended up being swept away"
Other survivors
Fishermen found five other survivors on Saturday, including a seven-year-old girl, after they had been lost at sea for three days.
The survivors told rescue teams that they were among a group of 25 people who were reported missing before strong winds dispersed them.
Anwar said. "After the ship sank, they survived using improvised equipment or flotation devices they found. They collected plastic containers and pieces of cork tied with ropes"
An engine failure caused the ship to sink while sailing near the small island of Selayar, located in the south of the main island of Sulawesi.
