The death toll from the double earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 5,208
The number of victims of the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 reached 5,208, according to a new provisional toll published by Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodriguez on Sunday.
The last toll reported on Saturday was 5,119. Venezuelawas affected, especially the coastal state of La Guaira, near the capital, Caracas.
The authorities did not publish the number of missing people. The United Nations estimated the day after the disaster that it might reach 50,000. Other estimates spoke of 10,000 missing people.
Rescue teams, along with volunteers, continue to search for victims among the rubble.
About 20,000 people are crowded in La Guaira, who have become homeless, in Random camps were set up in playgrounds, public squares, and on sidewalks.
Official figures reported that more than 850 buildings were damaged, 190 of which completely collapsed.
