Zeina Barhoum launches the first Arab opera about the Rose City of Petra

Jordanian soprano, Zeina Barhoum, launched her new operatic work, “Petra,” a song and musical film about the pink city of Petra, which was built by the Nabataeans hundreds of years ago.

The opera “Petra” was written by Jordanian soprano Zeina Barhoum, produced and arranged by Jordanian producer Youssef Beltagy, photographed by Korean artist and videographer Song Sik Shin, photo editor Muhammad Nour Shaheen, and directed by Italian Fabio Buonocore.

In exclusive statements to Zahrat Al Khaleej, Zeina expressed her pride in presenting the first Jordanian opera using artificial intelligence technology, as she chose the city of Petra. To bear the title of the international operatic work, which reflects the Jordanian civilization linked to history since ancient times.

Zeina explained that she wanted to reveal an aspect of the great history of the Rose City, the history of the Nabataean city, people’s passion for history, and the embodiment of ancient times.

Zeina indicated that she wanted to convey her voice, accompanied by a picture of Petra, the Nabataean city with its roots in history, to audiences all over the world, after she had previously conveyed her voice with her operatic singing works.

Zeina noted that the opera “Petra” carries the name, history and civilization of the Nabataeans to the world again, telling the story of the Pink City that was discovered in the nineteenth century AD, and since then it has been a legendary city that people from all over the world dream of visiting.

Regarding her choice of the “Jordan Museum” to launch the artwork, Zeina explained that the museum is a witness to the depth of the impact of Jordanian civilization and its history extending back hundreds of years. She said that Petra is one of the wonders of the world that enchants its visitors at all times, and visiting it is a great dream for tourists in all parts of the world. the world.

Zeina attributed the reason for choosing the Jordan Museum as a place to launch this artwork, to its historical and cultural importance, which is an important message that fulfills the need to transmit the cultural image to future generations through the arts.

Zeina expressed openness to the idea of ​​presenting operatic works in Arabic, with the aim of conveying this type of singing to the public. She said: “Operatic singing is linked to foreign cultures for the Arab public, and it is not easy to convince an audience accustomed to hearing ancient and modern forms of Arabic singing to accept an art different from it.”

Zeina believed that it is possible to establish a generation that is aware of the importance of operatic singing, through the opening of academies that care for children with great vocal abilities, in addition to the necessity of promoting the art of opera and marketing it to the public step by step, so that it is accepted among them, and thus we create a generation that enjoys the sweetness of opera and its singing, and it can Then, an Arab operatic project was built, running side by side with international opera.
