ABU DHABI, 8 December, 2024 – The “We Protect” World Summit 2024 was concluded in the capital, Abu Dhabi, which witnessed on the closing day the launch of the “Abu Dhabi Call to Action”, which embodies a unified response to confront the current and future challenges facing the protection of children through the digital world.

Over the course of two days, the summit addressed vital issues related to children and their protection and the promotion of participatory work between public sector institutions, represented by governments and the private sectors, represented by major global technology companies and online service providers, calling for taking advantage of new and emerging technologies to provide a safe environment that protects the future of the world represented by children in the face of challenges. And the dangers of the digital world.

In his closing speech during the second day, Ian Drennan, Executive Director of the We Protect Global Alliance, thanked and appreciated the leadership, government and people of the United Arab Emirates for generously hosting the summit.

He added: “This year’s theme, ‘Focus on the Future’, directed us to think beyond the immediate challenges and imagine the world we want where every child can explore, connect and grow online without fear. The conversations we had here in Abu Dhabi were not about “This is not just a call to action for today, because every child matters and as a coalition of members from around the world, we remain committed to working together to change the lives of millions for the better.” .

For her part, Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior, and a member of the Board of Directors of the We Protect Global Alliance, said in a speech during the closing ceremony that ten years ago, the “We Protect” Summit received the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to be a global launch for this humanitarian initiative from the land of the Emirates.

She pointed to the support of His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and His Highness’s constant follow-up, to activate the role of the Ministry of Interior in the global We Protect coalition and to enhance joint international action towards safer societies.

She expressed her pride in the country’s efforts in the field of child protection and care, stressing at the conclusion of the summit that children, family and society are the UAE’s priorities with the vision of the wise leadership.

She extended thanks and appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of this distinguished edition, which was hosted by the Ministry of Interior and enhanced the country’s global presence and good reputation in all fields.

In her speech, she stressed the need to move forward and work more in confronting the challenges and stopping the numbers of crimes against children that rise annually through the digital world, and the need for serious work and tangible results to be our primary concern.

She added that there is more than one coalition, organization and institution around the world that works well, but they do not work together in an integrated manner, and hence the “We Protect” coalition, with the great international effort it represents, must play the role of the primary link between them all, because it includes the appropriate members from governments and companies. And public benefit institutions, stressing the importance of continuing discussion and dialogue in a transparent and frank manner until change is achieved and the basis is agreed upon, which constitutes a red line, which is the child.

She called on everyone to hear the opinions of children, referring to the appeal of the children of the world who gathered and wrote it themselves a week ago in Abu Dhabi during the meeting of the Global Network of Religions for Children with Arigatou, where they said: “Our voices are present across all societies. We do not ask of you the impossible, but rather our basic rights: safety.” , education, safety, a sustainable environment, and the opportunity to grow up with dignity.”

The second day witnessed a series of discussions and general and specialized sessions, distributed throughout the summit, with the participation of experts and specialists, who addressed topics related to empowering, promoting and protecting children from various types of technological threats and risks arising from technical developments and methods of exploitation and abuse.
