The United Arab Emirates participated in the twenty-sixth ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum “GECF” Which was held in Tehran under the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The UAE delegation to the meeting was headed by His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, on behalf of His Excellency Suhail bin Faraj Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, where he participated in high-level sessions that shed light on practical steps to confront current challenges in the energy sector..

Al Zaabi said in his speech that the UAE considers natural gas one of the best solutions that achieve a sustainable balance between economic growth and environmental protection. It plays a pivotal role in supporting the global transition towards clean and sustainable energy, stressing that the UAE will continue to work to achieve diversification in energy sources, and invest in modern technologies to enhance production efficiency and reduce carbon emissions..

His Excellency indicated that the UAE believes that the discussions that will take place during the organization’s meeting, whether with regard to short-term developments in the global energy market or future expectations until 2050, will contribute significantly to formulating policies that support market stability and meet the growing global demand for energy..

His Excellency stressed the importance of strengthening coordination among the member states of the organization in facing the challenges and benefiting from the opportunities presented by the natural gas sector, indicating that the UAE is committed to working with the member states to achieve common goals to ensure the sustainability and stability of the global energy market..

It is worth noting that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum includes 12 main members, namely the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Russia, Iran, Bolivia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. As for the countries that hold observer status, they number 8. They are Iraq, Angola, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru, and Senegal..

The forum’s member states account for 70% of the world’s gas reserves, 40% of production, 47% of pipeline gas exports, and 51% of liquefied gas exports.
