Dubai International Chamber organizes 308 bilateral business meetings to enhance cooperation with Uganda

Dubai, December 10 / WAM / Dubai International Chamber, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, held 308 bilateral business meetings between companies from Dubai and their counterparts in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, during the first leg of the trade mission led by the Chamber to both Uganda and Tanzania. Within the framework of the “New Horizons for Foreign Expansion” initiative, which aims to support the expansion of local companies towards global markets characterized by promising prospects and opportunities.
The activities of the trade mission included the Dubai International Chamber organizing a business forum in Kampala entitled “Doing Business with Uganda.”
On the sidelines of the forum, Her Excellency Robina Nabanga, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, met with a delegation from Dubai World Chamber in a private meeting, where she stressed the importance of the mission led by the Chamber in strengthening economic ties and business partnerships, praising its efforts in consolidating cooperation, trade exchange and investments between the two sides.
Her Excellency stressed that the forum organized in Uganda will achieve its goals in facilitating dialogue between the two business communities and supporting investments to serve common interests.
During the forum’s activities, Dubai Chambers concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Dubai companies and their Ugandan counterparts, in addition to organizing trade missions, conferences and business events with the aim of sharing experiences and knowledge, which contributes to achieving mutual benefits and advancing the wheel of growth and innovation.
His Excellency Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, Director General of Dubai Chambers, said: “We are committed to strengthening Dubai’s trade and investment partnerships with countries around the world, and we are keen to support companies operating in the emirate to expand and grow globally in various sectors to explore opportunities in promising markets, including Uganda, which contributes to enhancing growth.” Dubai’s foreign trade and strengthening its position as an international business centre.
The forum witnessed speeches by Her Excellency Olive Kigongo, President of the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Martin Muhanji, Deputy Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority, in addition to the presence of 302 participants, including senior official figures, business leaders, and Ugandan companies interested in exploring partnership opportunities with members of the chamber delegation.
The value of non-oil trade between Dubai and Uganda during the past year amounted to 4.4 billion dirhams, according to Dubai Customs data, while the number of active Ugandan companies registered as members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce until the end of September 2024 reached 148 companies.
During his participation in the Business Forum, Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, gave an extensive introductory presentation about the economic landscape in Dubai, in which he reviewed the competitive advantages that the emirate offers to companies and investors.
Representatives of 29 companies from the private sector in Dubai participated in the trade mission activities in a variety of sectors, including the construction and building materials sector, engineering industries, food and beverages, warehousing and retail services, oil and gas, in addition to electrical appliances, health care, Energy, automotive, agricultural technology and information technology.
The Chamber monitored a group of promising sectors for export from Dubai to Uganda, most notably laboratory and diagnostic equipment, electricity meters, ceramic tiles, cooking oils and fodder, while the most promising sectors for investment in Uganda are the tourism sector, agriculture, mining, information and communications technology, electronic devices and infrastructure projects that include roads. Railways and water supply.
