Abu Dhabi, December 19 / WAM / The education sector in the UAE during the year 2024 received special attention after the adoption of February 28 of each year as an education day under the name “Emirati Education Day”, in celebration of the importance of education and its pivotal role in development, progress and building generations.
The UAE continued its efforts to improve the education sector, announcing a new structure for the sector, according to which His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as Chairman of the Council for Education, Human Development and Society, and Her Highness Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Council. Education, Human Development and Society, and Chairman of the National Center for Quality Education, and the appointment of Her Excellency Sarah bint Youssef Al Amiri as Minister of Education.
The new structure included the establishment of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the establishment of a general secretariat for the Council for Education, Human Development and Society, and the merging of the Emirates Foundation for School Education and the Federal Agency for Early Education with the Ministry of Education.
The Council of Ministers adopted a national framework for classifying higher education institutions in the country, which includes government and private educational institutions, whereby these institutions are evaluated and classified according to the results of their performance at the level of national indicators distributed over four axes.
The UAE has introduced a new system for financing federal government higher education institutions, which relies on switching to a system of funding through scholarships, by determining the number of new academic seats and specializations required according to the needs of the labor market and the grants that will be allocated to each educational institution according to a specific mechanism.
During the year 2024, the announcement of the establishment of the National University of Dubai, with an investment of 4.5 billion dirhams, was announced, with the aim of consolidating Dubai’s position as a global destination for higher education and scientific research.
The university aims to be among the top 50 young universities over the next decade, provide specialized and future academic programs, and be among the best universities in research contributions. It also aspires to be one of the top 200 universities within 20 years, and among the top 3 universities locally in the number of research contributions. Within 10 years.
Last October, the Emirate of Dubai adopted the “Education Strategy 2033”, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift in the education system by providing model, high-quality, student-centered education.
