The Prime Minister of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt announced that the death toll from the car-ramming attack that occurred at the Christmas market in the state capital, Magdeburg, has risen to 5 people.

Extremist killer

Deutsche Welle reports that the perpetrator of the attack is an activist who espouses critical views of Islam, and is a supporter of the far-right Alternative for Germany party.

The German magazine “Der Spiegel” reported that the suspect’s posts on social media indicated his sympathy for the Alternative for Germany party.
Meanwhile, the German News Agency said that the 50-year-old doctor, who has permanent residency in Germany, had previously described himself as a former Muslim.
