Fierce battles for control of the strategic city of Pokrovsk

Fierce battles broke out again between attacking Russian forces and Ukrainian forces defending the strategically important city of Pokrovsk, located in eastern Ukraine.
The General Staff in Kiev said in its report on the situation on Wednesday evening that 35 Russian attacks were reported around the city on the outskirts of the Donbass region during the day.

Violent battles

The Ukrainian news agency UNIAN quoted regional commander Viktor Trekhupov as saying, “Three Russian armies are stationed here against us.”
He explained, “The battles here are very violent because the Russian occupiers are pushing all their available forces forward and trying to penetrate the defense lines of our forces.”
Trekhupov described the situation, saying: “Since the Russian forces do not want to fight inside the city itself, they are trying to impose battles on the outskirts to force the Ukrainian forces to retreat and avoid a direct attack.”
