He provided Moscow with information… 15 years in prison for a Ukrainian convicted of “high treason”

Ukraine on Monday sentenced a former policeman to 15 years in prison, convicted of “high treason.”
Kyiv explained that the policeman handed Russia information about Ukrainian air defense systems, according to the prosecution.

Repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war

The Ukrainian prosecution said in a statement via Telegram: “A resident of Zaporizhya was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing the enemy with information about the locations of air defense systems.”
The prosecutor’s office explained that “the man toured the city of Zaporizhya and its surroundings to identify air defense sites, their crews and equipment of the defense forces.”
The same source stated that the convict, a retired policeman with the rank of lieutenant colonel, “contacted a former friend of his in school who is today an employee in the Russian Ministry of Defense, and offered him his assistance in the war against Ukraine.”

Russian missile bombardment

Ukraine continues to call on its Western allies to strengthen these systems to contain the Russian missile bombardment of energy facilities.
Kiev has accused hundreds of people of cooperating with Russia since the start of the invasion in February 2022, especially individuals who were transmitting sensitive information to the Russian army or to officials in the occupied Ukrainian regions.
A few days ago, a Ukrainian court sentenced a woman accused of “high treason” to 14 years in prison for writing a letter to Russia’s representative to the United Nations, justifying the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian prosecution explained at the time that “a resident of Kiev wrote a letter to Russia’s representative at the United Nations about her support for the Russian special operation, and she was sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of high treason.”

Russian war on Ukraine

It was reported that Vasily Nebenzia, Permanent Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, clarified this message in a speech he delivered on February 28, 2022 to justify the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine that had begun four days earlier.
The prosecutor’s office in Kiev indicated that the convict, prompted by Russian intelligence, “wrote that the Ukrainian people support the alleged special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.”
He added that looting, crimes and thefts began in Ukraine, and that politicians officially called for the killing of Russians.
On that day, Russia announced that it seeks to protect Russian speakers residing in Ukraine, in addition to “cleaning the country of Nazism,” which was strongly rejected by Kiev and its Western allies.
