7 people died and 9 were injured after a bus collided with a truck parked in the middle of the road in Dubai

Seven people died and nine others were injured in a horrific traffic accident on Emirates Road, after a minibus collided with a truck that was parked in the middle of the road, following a previous accident.

In detail, the Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier General Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, said that parking in the middle of the road is a dangerous violation that causes serious accidents, deaths and serious injuries, calling on drivers to ensure the safety of their vehicles before setting off, and to take quick and correct action when exposed to any sudden malfunction on the road.

He explained that the management of the Command and Control Center in the General Directorate of Operations received a report regarding the collision accident, as preliminary information showed that a truck was first involved in a traffic accident that led to it stopping in one of the lanes of the road, before the minibus driver collided with it from behind, as a result of negligence and lack of attention.

He added that the accident resulted in the death of seven people and the injury of nine others with varying injuries, including five serious injuries and four moderate injuries. The injured were transferred to hospitals to receive the necessary treatment and medical care.

Brigadier General Bin Suwaidan indicated that traffic inspection experts from the Traffic Accident Department, along with Al Khawaneej Police Station patrols, immediately moved to the site of the accident to determine its circumstances and collect the necessary technical evidence to determine all the causes and factors that led to its occurrence.

At the same time, traffic patrols worked to secure the accident site, organize traffic, and facilitate the arrival of ambulance and rescue vehicles, while specialized work teams began removing the effects of the accident and moving the damaged truck and bus to restore traffic to normal as quickly as possible.

The Director of the General Traffic Department confirmed that a driver whose vehicle is exposed to a technical malfunction or traffic accident and is unable to move it off the road must take a set of preventive measures to protect himself, his companions, and other road users.

He explained that these procedures begin by turning on the warning lights, then securing the passengers and keeping them away from danger, placing the warning triangle behind the vehicle at a sufficient distance to alert drivers coming from behind whenever possible, then leaving the vehicle completely and heading to a safe place off the road, before communicating with the police to take the necessary measures.

He stressed that in such cases, police patrols are responsible for securing broken down vehicles, taking measures to protect road users and preventing secondary accidents whose results may be more serious than the original accident.

Following the accident, the Dubai Police General Command warned of the danger of standing in the middle of the road, due to technical malfunctions, fuel exhaustion, or tire failure, stressing that such behavior is among the most dangerous traffic violations that may end in humanitarian disasters within seconds.

She pointed out that the fine for parking in the middle of the road amounts to 1,000 dirhams and six traffic points, in addition to the fine for obstructing traffic stipulated in Article 98, which amounts to 500 dirhams, stressing that the purpose of these measures is not to issue fines as much as it is to protect lives, and prevent the recurrence of tragic accidents such as those witnessed on Emirates Road, which ended with seven people losing their lives, and nine others being injured in just a few moments.
