المملكة: “Jeddah Astronomy”… Rajab crescent decorates the sky after sunset today

The crescent moon for the month of Rajab is observed after sunset today and moving towards the beginning of the night, with the naked eye, as it decorates the southwestern horizon if the sky is clear.

A clearer moon

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Engineer Majid Abu Zahra, stated that the crescent moon will be clearer and higher in the sky compared to last night, and it can be seen that the unlit side of the moon’s surface is illuminated by a faint light that is sunlight reflected from the Earth and falling on the moon.
Day after day, it will be noticed that the crescent moon becomes increasingly luminous, rises higher in the sky at sunset, and remains longer after the beginning of the night, because the moon is moving away from the location of sunset.

Movement of the moon and earth

Abu Zahira attributed the reason for seeing the moon moving towards the west every day as a result of the Earth’s rotation around its axis, but the real movement of the moon is towards the east in relation to the stars and planets during its rotation around the Earth, and this time of the lunar month is usually ideal for observing faint objects in the depths of space such as galaxies, nebulae and clusters. Starburst because the sky will be dark because there is no moonlight that normally drowns out the natural lights in the sky.
