المملكة: Jeddah Astronomy: The conjunction of the Moon and Jupiter adorns the sky of the Arab world this evening

Head Jeddah Astronomical Society Engineer Majed Abu Zahra The sky of the Arab world is witnessing this evening, Thursday, March 26, 2026, a remarkable astronomical phenomenon, represented by The waxing gibbous Moon is in conjunction with Planet Jupiter, in a scene that can be easily monitored with the naked eye without the need to use specialized astronomical devices.

He indicated that this event begins after sunset and entering the early hours of the night, as the Moon and Jupiter appear close together in the sky, at a noticeable height, and they continue to cross together for most of the hours of the night, which provides a comfortable opportunity for monitoring and follow-up.

An attractive visual scene

He pointed out Abu Zahra pointed out that Jupiter will appear as an extremely bright white dot, outshining most of the stars in the sky, while the growing gibbous moon is adjacent to it, forming an attractive visual scene.

The stars of the Gemini constellation will also appear in the same region, giving the sky a beautiful astronomical picture that is easy to distinguish even for non-specialists.

He added that using a small star telescope or a simple telescope gives observers the opportunity to see details. More precisely, the most notable is the appearance of Jupiter’s four largest moons known as the Galilean moons, which are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto, as they appear as small points of light lined up around the giant planet.

Apparent Movement

With regard to the apparent movement of objects, Abu Zahra explained that the Moon and Jupiter will appear as if they are moving toward the west during the night, as a result of the Earth’s rotation around its axis, while the real movement of the Moon is among the stars. Along the ecliptic, it is towards the east, which leads to observing its gradual distance from Jupiter in the following nights when observing at the same time.

He stressed that this conjunction is one of the beautiful astronomical phenomena that gives those interested an ideal opportunity to contemplate the sky and understand the dynamics of the movement of celestial bodies, in a scene that combines visual simplicity and scientific accuracy.

He concluded his statement by calling on the public to direct their eyes towards the sky tonight, as the moon meets Jupiter in a painting. A dazzling cosmos that reflects the breadth and precision of this universe, and reminds man of his place within this enormous astronomical system.
