"Economy" Launch a project "Patent Hive" To support and encourage innovators to register patents

Abu Dhabi, January 6 / WAM / The Ministry of Economy launched the “Patent Hive” project, with the aim of raising the rate of granting patents and encouraging innovators and talents to apply for patents, by reducing the cost of registering them and accelerating their registration procedures, which contributes to increasing the number of patents. Registered within the country, and enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness in the fields of innovation and creativity regionally and globally.

This came during an event organized by the Ministry in the presence of representatives of universities and research centres, where the role of the concerned authorities in supporting the project was reviewed, the importance of integration between the government and private sectors was emphasized to achieve its goals, and opening new horizons for cooperation with scientific research centres, students and innovators, and a review of the opportunities and incentives it provides for them. .

His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, confirmed that the UAE has made great strides to develop the intellectual property sector, as it is a fundamental and fundamental foundation for enhancing the growth of the national economy, and has worked to provide an incubating national environment for intellectual property protection activities in various fields, especially the registration and documentation of patents. In accordance with international best practices, and providing all capabilities and facilities that support the growth of projects based on innovation, research and development.

He said that the “Patent Hive” project represents an important step to strengthen the efforts of the Ministry of Economy aimed at developing an environment that stimulates creativity and innovation and attracts owners of innovative ideas and projects in strategic economic sectors in line with the objectives of the “We Are the Emirates 2031” vision, for the UAE to become the global center for the new economy. It consolidates its position among the top 15 countries in the world in the Global Innovation Index.

The new project comes within the framework of the intellectual property system launched by the Ministry early last year in cooperation with its partners from the government and private sectors, which represented a turning point to support the state’s vision of shifting towards its new economic model based on knowledge and innovation.

The “Patent Hive” project includes a number of mechanisms aimed at creating an integrated environment that supports easy and convenient registration of patents, as it aims to reduce the time required to register patents from 42 months to only 6 months, which contributes to achieving the goal of increasing the number of registered patents from 4,481. 6,000 patents by 2026, and consolidates the UAE’s position as a global center for innovation.

The project provides a set of incentives directed to students and young researchers, including reducing registration fees for students, and implementing a zero-fee policy for youth under 21 years of age, which contributes to enhancing cooperation and integration with the scientific research sectors, universities, and small and medium enterprises in the country.

The project also provides specialized training programs and technical consultations provided by the Ministry in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with the aim of building the capabilities of national cadres and raising their awareness of the importance of intellectual property, as well as working to prepare a guide to coordinate and organize joint operations between the Ministry and the scientific research sectors, to clarify roles and responsibilities and ensure Providing high quality outputs.

The event witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding with a number of universities, research centers and participating entities, with the aim of enhancing cooperation and unifying efforts to achieve the project objectives, setting performance indicators for research outputs and measuring the extent of their contribution to increasing the number of registered patents in the country.
