Casualties in a 6.8 Richter earthquake in China

At least 53 people were killed as a result of the severe earthquake that struck Tuesday in the Tibet region in the Himalayas, southwest of China, near the border with Nepal.

The new Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reported that 53 people were killed and 62 injured as a result of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that shook Dingri Canton at 9:05, after a previous toll reported 23 deaths.
She explained, according to a report issued by the Chinese Center for Earthquake Networks, that the epicenter of the earthquake was monitored at the intersection of latitude 28.5 degrees north and longitude 87.45 degrees east, where the earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.
