Countries"Economic Cooperation Organization"Europe leads the production of electricity from nuclear energy

Abu Dhabi, January 7, 2024: Electricity production from nuclear energy in OECD countries reached about 144.7 terawatt-hours, representing 16.4% of the total electricity production in OECD countries.
The International Energy Agency stated, in its latest data on electricity productivity for OECD countries, that electricity generation from nuclear energy grew by 2.8% from January 2024 until last September, driven mainly by OECD countries in Europe, whose contribution rose by more than 5% over the past year. On an annual basis, its productivity reaches more than 23 terawatt-hours.
The agency explained that electricity productivity from nuclear energy in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Asia and Oceania increased by 5.6% on an annual basis, representing 10.4 terawatt-hours of production, while the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in the Americas also witnessed an increase of 0.5% from January 2024 until last September. Their contribution reached 3.6 terawatt-hours.
According to the data, January of last year witnessed the largest increase in terms of productivity compared to 2023, as electricity production from nuclear energy in January 2024 amounted to about 162 terawatt-hours, while February of the same year recorded the largest percentage of nuclear energy’s contribution to the total. Electricity production to reach 17.3%.
