For the first time…the new American banknotes will bear Trump’s signature

Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said in a statement announcing the decision: "Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and financial strength and stability" He added: "There is no stronger way to recognize the historic accomplishments of our great country and President Donald J. Trump has decided to issue US dollar banknotes bearing his signature, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued on the 250th anniversary of the country’s founding." This step is the latest attempt by Trump to go beyond long-standing practices and put his stamp on the American currency. Last week, an advisory committee chosen by Trump himself approved the design of a commemorative gold coin bearing his image, which also aims to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States on July 4, 1776. This coin does not carry a monetary value and the price has not been revealed. They were sold, but similar commemorative coins sold by the US Mint could trade for more than $1,000. Democrats criticized the move, which conflicts with a federal law that stipulates that no living president may appear on US currency.
