Joseph Aoun wins the support of 71 votes in the election session for the new Lebanese president

The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, announced today, Thursday, that 71 deputies support the election of Joseph Aoun as President of the Lebanese Republic, after counting the votes of the 128 deputies participating in the voting process.

The Speaker of the Council said that the number of valid votes in support of Aoun’s election amounted to 71 deputies and 37 blank papers, and Sovereignty and the Constitution 14, and Shibli Al-Mallat 2. And the canceled papers 4.. The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament adjourned the session for two hours for further consultation.

 

Out of the total, the vote-counting process to elect the President of the Lebanese Republic has ended, and the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, has won. There were 71 votes, and the rest of the counted votes were distributed as follows:

 

The Lebanese Parliament had begun the parliamentary session earlier today. To elect the 14th President of the Republic after a quorum is reached, in the presence of French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, Saudi envoy Yazid bin Farhan, ambassadors of the Five-Year Committee and a number of diplomats.

 

The President of the Republic is chosen. The Lebanese system of secret ballot with a two-thirds majority of the House of Representatives in the first session; An absolute majority in the subsequent voting sessions is sufficient.

 

It is noteworthy that the term for electing the President of the Republic in Lebanon is 6 years, and he may not be re-elected except after 6 years after the end of his term. It is not permissible to elect No one to run for the Presidency of the Republic unless he meets the conditions that qualify him for representation and do not preclude eligibility for nomination… and in accordance with Article 94 of the Constitution, if the presidency becomes vacant due to the president’s death, resignation, or other reason. In order to elect a successor, the Council shall meet immediately by law to choose someone else.
