Known as the celebrity hunter… Death takes away a famous media personality (photo)

The great Egyptian journalist, Laila Rostom, passed away today, Thursday, at the age of 88.

The late media personality was known as the “Maspero Icon” and the “Celebrity Hunter,” as she hosted Egyptian and Arab celebrities in all fields through her most famous program, “Your Favorite Star.”

In her program, Rustom hosted more than 150 famous personalities, writers, journalists, and artists, such as Taha Hussein, Abdel Halim Hafez, and Tawfiq Al-Hakim.

The late broadcaster was born in 1937. She was the daughter of engineer Abdul Hamid Rostom, the younger brother of the great artist Zaki Rostom. She studied in nuns’ schools, and her uncle Zaki Rostom rejected her acting career, so she turned to journalism.

She started as a broadcaster on the European program on Egyptian radio, then moved to work on television six months later.

The late woman presented three programs that are considered among the most important programs on Egyptian television: “The Bright Room,” “Twenty Questions,” and “Your Favorite Star.” (Arabic)
