Russia destroys a large number of Ukrainian military vehicles in Kursk

The Russian army targeted a number of brigades belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in the Russian province of Kursk.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced, in a statement on Sunday, that the army destroyed a large number of Ukrainian military vehicles during the past 24 hours.

The war in Kursk

Units of the Russian “North” group forces targeted a tank, two mechanized brigades, two airborne assault brigades, and two regional defense brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It also repelled 5 counterattacks by the Ukrainian armed forces, according to what the Russian Sputnik news agency reported.
Tactical operational strikes, aviation and artillery fire of the Russian army also targeted concentrations of manpower and equipment belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in several areas of the Sumy region.

New attacks in Kursk

Russia explained that over the course of 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost more than 350 soldiers, and a tank, 4 infantry fighting vehicles, 5 armored personnel carriers, 12 armored combat vehicles, 4 cars, and an electronic warfare station belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces captured two North Korean soldiers, who were fighting alongside Russian forces in the Russian border region of Kursk.
These statements come days after Ukraine began launching new attacks in Kursk, to retain the lands it occupied, in a lightning raid last August, which resulted in the first occupation of Russian land since World War II.

Carrying out combat operations

A few days ago, Ukraine announced that its forces were launching “combat operations” in Kursk, southern Russia, and carried out a “precise” strike against a military command center there.
This came two days after Moscow announced that Kiev had begun a “counterattack” in that region, while the Ukrainian General Staff said, “The strike against the command headquarters near Belaya in the Kursk region “took place in coordination with the Ukrainian ground forces that are carrying out combat operations on the territory of the Russian Federation.” .
Before that, the Russian army announced that Ukraine had launched a new attack in this region, whose forces have controlled several hundred square kilometers since August 2024.
