United Nations: Iran’s attacks on civilians in the Gulf and Jordan amount to war crimes
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights warned, Volker Türk, from A dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, stressing that civilians bear the greatest burden.
Turk made this clear in his speech before the Human Rights Council during an urgent discussion on the repercussions of Iranian attacks on countries Gulf Cooperation Council, and Jordan, that the missile and drone attacks launched by Iran targeted military bases, residential areas and vital installations in several Gulf countries and Jordan, and resulted in deaths and injuries, and extensive damage to infrastructure, including ports, airports, and energy and water facilities.
Turk called for an immediate cessation of Iranian attacks, stressing that attacks on civilians may amount to war crimes, as he warned. Of serious global economic repercussions as a result of disrupting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
