Nine people were killed and three missing in landslides in southeastern Brazil

Nine people were killed and three others were missing as a result of landslides caused by heavy rains that struck southeastern Brazil.
Firefighting teams reported that landslides caused by torrential rains resulted in the deaths of at least 9 people and the loss of 3 others in the state of Minas Gerais, located in southeastern Brazil.

The city council of Ipatinga, in the state of Minas Gerais, explained in a statement that six people were killed in the city as a result of torrential rains.
The statement indicated that rescuers also found two bodies, while searching for three missing people, and a body was found in the nearby town of Santana do Paraiso.
The Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema, expressed his solidarity with the victims of the landslides in Ipatinga, stressing that all means the state has are in place to help rescue people affected by the torrential rains.
