A new decision regarding the entry of Syrians into Egypt

The Chargé d’Affairs of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Damascus, Ambassador Osama Khadr, said that in light of the historical relations between the Egyptian and Syrian peoples, visas have been opened for a number of Syrians.

Osama Khader added that visas have been opened for Syrian students enrolled to study at various educational levels, for Syrian investors and their families, as well as for husbands and wives of Egyptian citizens, according to what was reported by the Egyptian Al-Watan newspaper.

Khader confirmed that the visa is for Syrian students enrolled to study at various educational levels, for Syrian investors and their families, as well as for husbands and wives of Egyptian citizens.

News agencies circulated a decision last month to stop the entry of Syrians with European, American, and Canadian residency into Egypt without obtaining security approval.

She explained that the decision included stopping allowing Syrians holding Schengen visas to enter Egypt.

The decision at the time also included prohibiting the entry of Syrians, whether they were the husband or wife of an Egyptian man or woman, without security approval.

UNHCR estimates indicate that the number of Syrian refugees around the world is about six million, most of them in neighboring countries. UNHCR expects the return of one million refugees within the next six months.
