Electronic transformation of taxis enhances sustainability and smooth movement in Dubai

DUBAI, 21 JANUARY / WAM / The taxi sector in the Emirate of Dubai witnessed remarkable development over the past year thanks to the strategy of shifting towards electronic booking implemented by the Roads and Transport Authority, which contributed to enhancing sustainability and the smooth flow of traffic by motivating passengers to use this technology, which limited Taxis roam the roads and streets of the emirate.

Adel Shakri, Director of the Planning and Business Development Department at the Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, confirmed that the taxi sector in the Emirate of Dubai witnessed an increase in the growth rate of the market share of electronic booking trips by 16% during the year 2024 compared to the year 2023, in addition to an increase in the market share of ( Hala) during peak hours from 42% in 2023 to 50% in 2024, which contributed to reducing traffic equivalent to 7600 regular vehicles per day.

Shakri pointed to the increase in the level of customers and taxi drivers, as the arrival time for more than 74% of trips carried out via electronic booking reached less than 3.5 minutes, while driving time for drivers decreased by 50 minutes per day, and the travel distance was reduced by 4% in 2024.

From an environmental standpoint, the strategy has contributed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 20,000 tons during the year 2024 by reducing the average wasteful driving of a driver without a passenger by 3 kilometers per trip via electronic reservation compared to regular taxi trips, which is equivalent to saving 5 minutes. From wasteful driving.

These positive results confirm the success of the Roads and Transport Authority in modernizing and simplifying taxi services in Dubai, and enhancing sustainability and quality of service, in a way that meets the needs of residents and visitors alike.
