Al Hosn Festival consolidates the UAE’s heritage in the hearts of younger generations

Abu Dhabi, 23 January / WAM / Al Hosn Festival, whose activities will be held from January 25 to February 9, enhances Emirati heritage culture by consolidating the cultural heritage in the minds of emerging generations, as a national symbol that reflects the nobility and authenticity of Emirati traditions and national heritage.
The festival’s activities – which are held annually in the Al Hosn area – witness a large attendance of citizens and residents, who are keen to visit its sections and squares to watch the performances of popular arts groups and various events.
The festival – organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi this year, under the slogan “A Living Expression of Abu Dhabi’s Culture” – includes historical events that highlight the history of Abu Dhabi and take visitors on a journey through the past that showcases customs, traditions, and heritage and cultural creativity to explore the legacy of fathers and grandfathers.
In its ninth edition, the festival offers new activities that open prose dialogues, reflecting the ongoing legacy through craft and design experiments, performances, workshops, and more.
Randa Omar bin Haider, Director of the Department of Cultural Festivals and Platforms at the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, said in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the festival, in its ninth edition, includes a rich program of heritage and culture, traditional performances, workshops, shops, delicious food, and handicrafts, noting that the festival It is considered one of the most important cultural and heritage landmarks in Abu Dhabi, which is held annually at Qasr Al Hosn.
She added that the festival includes more than 50 cultural, heritage and performance activities, in addition to music and artistic workshops, pointing out that the festival celebrates the ancient cultural and popular heritage by highlighting the heritage of our ancestors, their past and their traditional crafts, in addition to consolidating the cultural heritage and getting to know closely the authentic customs and traditions of Emirati society. Among the emerging generations, it is a forum for everyone, with its many roles over time, allowing its guests from inside and outside the country to communicate with the heritage, crafts and creativity communities in Abu Dhabi.
The activities include several exhibitions, the most important of which are the Story of Abu Dhabi Island exhibition, which explores Abu Dhabi’s heritage through historical narratives, myths, cultural symbols and poetry, and the Artisans’ House, which celebrates in the “Al Tayeb” program by presenting the traditions of perfume making in Emirati culture, exploring the tools and ingredients of perfume and its stories, and understanding The connection of its makers to nature and balancing traditions in the right direction, in addition to the “Chulip” show, which will be held in partnership with the “Abu Dhabi Police Knights” and combines silhouettes, poetry and art. The Cholip, during which the knights sing their poems in unison with the hooves of their horses, celebrating their return to Qasr Al Hosn, in addition to the “Majlis” experience, which enables visitors to re-image historical images in the Men’s Majlis.
As for the women, they wear the traditional Emirati dress and take pictures in the Women’s Majlis, in addition to presenting the theatrical performance “Sanad Al-Asana”, whose events take place in a historic village in Abu Dhabi and tells the story of the young “Sanad” who shows his intelligence and love of knowledge by helping his neighbors, revealing the values of community cohesion in the past .
Al Meqnas’s journey celebrates electronic games by combining heritage and innovation, presenting games from a local studio that shed light on Emirati culture and open horizons for new industries.
The festival highlights the Heritage District, which will take visitors on a journey through the culture, customs and daily life of historic Abu Dhabi.
Qasr Al Hosn Castle is opened as the first architectural building that connects the city to its historical roots. The visitor to the palace witnesses historical narratives, myths, cultural symbols and poetry, and learns about the geography of Abu Dhabi Island and its early inhabitants.
The National Advisory Council opens its doors to visitors to the festival… and in the “Al-Midan” area, which takes us back to the past through falconry shows, saluki races, camel riding, and other heritage scenes.
In the “Al-Farej” area, visitors will have a chance to discover the historical markets and craft displays, from blacksmithing to pottery, the Housh barn, marine crafts, milk churning, jami, the Souq Al-Sawg, the “House of Wicker”, drying, dyeing and weaving of palm fronds, while the Souq Al-Sawg includes dokhoon, tailoring, jewellery, henna and perfumes. And handicrafts.
In the “Apprentice Craftsman” program, the festival honors the transmission of ancient traditions and crafts across generations through individual participation through workshops and teaching bodies that work to integrate traditional crafts into works of art.
