Davos.. “Diplomacy Lab” hosts a session on humanitarian diplomacy and sustainable development

Davos, 24 January / WAM / The Diplomacy Lab initiative in the UAE hosted a dialogue session with Achim Steiner, Director of the United Nations Development Programme, during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The session, titled “Protecting People and Planet: The Role of Human Development in a World Full of Challenges,” discussed critical issues related to humanitarian work, sustainable development, and environmental sustainability.
The session addressed pivotal topics that included enhancing confidence, investing in people, and protecting the planet, with a focus on the importance of mitigating risks and enhancing resilience in the face of unprecedented geopolitical, economic, and environmental crises.
In a year that witnessed major conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, in addition to severe weather events resulting from climate change, the session stressed the urgent need for comprehensive and sustainable humanitarian development policies.

Steiner explained the importance of empowering local communities, promoting innovative solutions, and implementing policies that ensure safe and stable livelihoods for the most vulnerable groups.
The dialogue session reflected the UAE’s firm commitment to advancing humanitarian diplomacy and sustainable development at the global level. As a leader in climate action and development initiatives, the UAE continues to provide practical and comprehensive solutions that address the roots of instability and promote long-term resilience.
The session also witnessed important discussions on how to benefit from technology, innovation, and multilateral partnerships to confront the most pressing challenges on the international scene, stressing the importance of global platforms such as Davos in promoting fruitful exchange and advancing cooperation between governments, international organizations, and the private sector.
