The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has confirmed that 242 million students in 85 countries will be affected by disruptions to education in 2024.

The organization’s report indicated that heat waves had the most impact, as studies were disrupted for 118 million students in April alone.
She explained that children are more vulnerable to the effects of climate crises, including drought and floods, due to their biological nature.

School closures due to climate

She stated that schools in 16 countries were subject to closure in September due to climate events, affecting 16 million children in the East Asia and Pacific region.
She called on world leaders and the private sector to invest in educational facilities capable of withstanding disasters and to enhance the capabilities of educational systems to confront climate change.
