المملكة: Promising opportunities for the Kingdom’s electric car market despite challenges

The auto and transport industry has witnessed a rapid development with the entry of electric vehicles into the market, as it became a major option that supports global trends towards environmental sustainability and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
These cars rely on modern technologies that contribute to reducing emissions and improving air quality, as well as saving lower operating costs.
However, it still faces some challenges that require more development and infrastructure to support this shift.

He told Al -Youm, a professor of renewable energy and the electrical engineering, participating at King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Fahd Al -Sakhiri, that electric cars have caused a rapid shift in the auto industry and transportation in general, as it is a promising alternative to gasoline or diesel cars.
He explained that it depends on electrical engines operating with rechargeable batteries, which greatly contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
According to the International Energy Agency, these vehicles may contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the world by up to 5 GB by 2050..
He added: “One of the most prominent advantages of electric vehicles is to reduce environmental pollution by eliminating car exhaust emissions, which contributes significantly to improving air quality, as well as reducing dependence on fossil fuels.”

Less operating cost

Al -Sakhiri confirmed that it is characterized by the costs of operating less thanks to the lack of moving parts and the low cost of electricity compared to traditional fuel. However, with the spread of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy and wind energy, the environmental benefits of these vehicles will increase in the future..
He added that this technology faces several challenges, the most prominent of which is the high initial cost compared to traditional cars, in addition to the limited shipping stations in some areas.
Dr. Al -Sakhiri indicated that the battery life and the environmental impact of its production represents challenges that still exist; However, he stressed that with the progress of batteries technology, such as solid batteries, these aspects are expected to improve in the future, which will increase the extent of kilometers that cars can cut and reduce shipping times.

Electric cars in Saudi Arabia

Regarding the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al -Sakhiri explained that the electric car market is witnessing remarkable growth, especially in light of the 2030 vision aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil.
He pointed out that the Kingdom began to create an infrastructure for the charging stations, and Lucid Motors for the manufacture of electric cars launched.
Despite the challenges facing electric cars and renewable energy, such as dependence on oil at a low cost, it stressed that the Kingdom is moving steadily towards achieving the goals of sustainability, which opens promising horizons for this sector in the future.
