The art of “criticism” is known as a handicraft that includes embroidery of fabrics with gold or silver threads, using a special needle with two holes, on specific types of fabrics such as chiffon and tulle.
“Criticism” is mainly used to decorate traditional clothes and heritage costumes, and is characterized by its complex designs and decorations that reflect the skill and creativity of craftsmen.

Heritage of grandmothers

Fatima Ahmed Al -Hayrani, one of the graduates of the “Criticism” craft from the House of Craftsmen in Qatif, which is located in the Al -Rams project under the supervision of the Heritage Authority, confirmed that this art deserves to be more famous and more, as it is the heritage of grandmothers that spread in the eastern region and the Gulf states, where they called it ” Al -Ngda “instead of” criticism “, referring to the need to preserve and revive it again, as it combines the aesthetic of the heritage of the past with the elegance of the present.
Al -Hirani revealed that she learned “criticism” at the hands of the trainer Sarah Al -Dossary, a handicraft that depends on one stitch that is repeated to produce various forms symbolized into elements of nature, such as chick, fabula, casawa, and rose, explaining that “cash” cannot be produced through devices, It has a special way to close and open.

Al -Hirani added: “I faced some challenges in learning“ criticism ”, as it requires accuracy and patience, but the demand of the new generation to learn it represents a great incentive to continue, and I have developed it to suit the current era, by introducing new designs, and producing varied pieces such as winter chelated and “The veil” is one of the most preferred pieces.
She pointed out that the basic tools for “criticism” are wicker, special needle, and dedicated fabric such as chiffon, tulle, lanon, and Al -Khazar, and that each of its forms has a symbol that expresses something of nature, and has special names such as chick, fibula, jaswa, nutmeg, rose, fan, and beating Live, fronds, sugar head, and shroud fish.

Al -Hirani pointed out that the history of the art of criticism dates back centuries, as the metal threads were used to decorate the clothes of kings, princes and wealthy people, in addition to decorating furnishings and precious fabrics. Over time, this craft evolved and moved from generation to generation, becoming part of the cultural heritage and local traditions in many regions.
She indicated that the art of criticism is of great importance in preserving cultural heritage and promoting local identity. This art is also a source of income for many craftsmen. In addition, the art of criticism contributes to adding an artistic and aesthetic touch to different fashion and products, which increases its value and attractiveness.

Meanwhile, the director of the Al -Rams project and the head of the organizing committee for the activities of the farmers market, Muhammad Al -Turki, stressed that the committee was keen to highlight the craftsmen in these events to coincide with the year 2025 in the Kingdom, pointing out that the market gives visitors the opportunity to identify the techniques of this art and watch specialized craftsmen during work, It enhances awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

It is noteworthy that the farmers market sponsored by the Governor of Qatif Governorate, Ibrahim Al -Khar, is organized by the Al -Rams project administration under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and in cooperation with the municipality of Qatif Governorate, opens its doors to visitors daily from 4 pm until 10 pm, and will continue for 11 days, to provide them with a unique experience that combines between Rich in local agricultural products and the splendor of heritage and cultural events.
