226 archaeological sites damaged by the Israeli bombing of Gaza

Ramallah, February 5 / WAM / The Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said that 226 archaeological sites in the Gaza Strip were damaged, as a result of the Israeli military operations that affected all sites.

The Ministry stated in the report “Inventory of damage and risks to the sites of cultural heritage in Gaza” and the damage caused by the Israeli aggression that the study included 316 cultural heritage sites in Gaza that were divided into archaeological sites, traditional buildings, museums, religious buildings, historical tombs, cultural scenes, natural sites and landmarks.

The Palestinian Minister of Antiquities and Antiquities, Hani Al -Hayek, confirmed that the study took a full year, with the participation of 13 Palestinian experts, in addition to the support of the Oxford University team.

The study showed that out of 316 sites, the size of the damage to 138 sites was classified as major damage, 61 damaged and 27 were damaged, while 90 sites were confined without damage.

She indicated that the budgets needed to recover the cultural heritage sector were evaluated by 261.15 million euros.
