The Arab League calls for concerted efforts to preserve the radio

Cairo, February 12 / WAM / The League of Arab States called for concerted efforts to preserve the radio, and to build a future in which its role in spreading information and promoting culture and peace continues, stressing that it is an integral part of the social and cultural fabric of peoples, and a bridge between generations and cultures.

This came in a statement issued today on the occasion of the International Day of Radio, where UNESCO announced in 2011, on February 13 of each year, a global day for the radio, which is the first anniversary of the United Nations radio broadcast in 1946, and was officially approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary -General of the Arab League – Head of the Media and Communication Sector, said that the celebration of this day comes in appreciation of the radio ingredients as a media means, and its role in educating people about the value of general audio services, and to encourage cooperation between the main networks and local radio stations to access and use various information Noting that this day is an opportunity to enhance international cooperation between radio broadcasting bodies.

Khattabi stressed that thanks to the radio ability to adapt and flexibility, it keeps pace with the changing media scene, in front of the great challenges of the digital age and social media that the traditional media. He said that the League of Arab States is keen to celebrate this occasion, and it was a pioneer to encourage and appreciate the radio as a widely well -known societal media, and the Arab Media Excellence Award was devoted to its second session of 2017 for the radio under the slogan “The role of the audible radio in community service.”
