The UAE reviews the integration of knowledge and cultural heritage in national climatic strategies

Abu Dhabi, on August 5 / WAM / The UAE participated in the third meeting of the group of cultural work of the Group of Twenty, which is located under the slogan “Solidarity, equality, and sustainability”, and was hosted by the city of Cape Town in South Africa recently, with the aim of enhancing cultural cooperation between member states, and highlighting the importance of culture as a strategic tool to achieve sustainable development.
The state represented a delegation from the Ministry of Culture headed by Shatha Al -Mulla, the assistant undersecretary for the national identity and arts sector, where the meeting witnessed a series of discussion sessions that dealt with the closing document of the cultural work group “future achievements and prospects”, with the participation of high -ranking representatives of the Group of Twenty and host countries, as well as international organizations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The delegation participated on the sidelines of the meeting, in a high -level international symposium entitled “The intersection between culture and climate” and witnessed the participation of government leaders, experts, artists, innovators, technicians and representatives of civil society from all over the world, to explore how culture and creative industries contribute to adapting climate change and promoting sustainability.
Discussions were focused during the symposium on the role of culture, traditional knowledge and languages in climate work, the carbon footprint of the culture sector, the proposed solutions through the circular economy, in addition to highlighting the cultural initiatives of African leadership, presenting the best global practices in cultural climatic policies, and contributing to the drawing of the Group of Twenty’s policies on culture and climate.
During the third session, which was entitled “Integration of Culture in National Climate Policies”, the delegation reviewed the state’s experiences and best practices in integrating knowledge and cultural heritage in national climatic strategies, as an extension of the UAE leadership role in sustainable development and climate innovation after hosting the Conference Parties (COP28).
The Ministry of Culture is scheduled to participate in the next preparatory meeting scheduled for next October in the Kawazulu Natal Governorate, in preparation for the meeting of the Culture of the Group of Twenty to be held on the 29th of the same month, to approve the closing statement of the ministers of culture before the G20 leaders summit on November 27 and 28 in the Khating Governorate, South Africa.
Participation comes within the framework of the UAE’s keenness to enhance its active presence in international platforms concerned with culture as a basic pillar in achieving sustainable development, and investing as a pivotal component in facing climate challenges, and this participation also embodies the affirmation of the pioneering state’s position in the areas of climate innovation and cultural sustainability, especially in light of its ambitious national strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and to activate the role of culture in support Climate work objectives.
It is noteworthy that the UAE participates in the work of the summit for the fourth time in a row, as it was previously invited to 2022, 2023 and 2024, in addition to its historical participation in the 2011 and 2020 versions.
