Hamad Al -Ghafri wins the membership of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Addiction

Dr. Hamad Abdullah Al -Ghafri won the membership of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Addiction Medicine “ASAM” in the elections held during the last meeting of the General Assembly, in the presence of representatives of all members of the association.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to addiction were discussed, increased access to treatment and improving its quality, as well as holding elections for the main leadership positions.

Dr. Hamad Al -Ghafri, who previously held the position of Director General of the National Rehabilitation Center, will start for a period The ninth region, which includes Canada and the countries of the world.

Al -Ghafari is considered the first Gulf and Arab citizen, holding this high position, which is a new achievement for the countries of the region, and launches a new stage in the association’s march and its efforts in combating addiction, based on the generalization of the Emirati model in treating addiction, and transferring its knowledge and gains to the rest of the world.

On this occasion, Dr. Hamad Al -Ghafri thanked the wise leadership in the state, headed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State “may God protect him”, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai “may God bless him And His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the State, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Presidency, for their great support for Emirati cadres, which enabled her to assume her position in various international forums and at all levels.

The world’s confidence in the UAE
He stressed that winning comes the fruit of the world’s confidence in the UAE and crowning its good reputation, as well as being the outcome of its dedicated work in strengthening international work towards reducing the spread of narcotic substances and psychotropic substances, and its great role in providing integrated treatment services for addiction patients.

He explained that the American Society for Addiction plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of addiction medicine, by developing policies that facilitate the process of accessing addiction treatment, providing high -quality educational programs, training for health professionals, as well as enhancing their efforts in ensuring that all patients obtain the required care .

He stated that the association has begun to develop comprehensive standards of guidelines that unite the evaluation of individuals who suffer from narcotic drug use disorders, classification and treatment, as well as providing accreditation opportunities through the American Preventive Medicine Council “ISAM”, which ensures good training in doctors in the field of addiction medicine.
He pointed out that “ISAM” is working to provide various educational programs that include conferences, workshops, and online courses, in order to provide health care providers with the latest knowledge and tools in addiction treatment.

Dr. Hamad Abdullah Al -Ghaffari obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Public Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jordan for Science and Technology in 1999, a master’s degree in public health from the 2002 American University of Toleen, and a doctorate degree in primary health care for addiction from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom 2013.

He held many important positions within local and international organizations, as the ICRC consistent with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Health Organization in the period 2010-2012, and led the National Committee for Treatment and Rehabilitation, and also received membership in the Drug Control Council in the country.

He worked in the Department of Preventive Medicine in the Ministry of Health, and also held the position of Director of the Development Department in the Ministry of Health, and then moved to work at the National Rehabilitation Center.

It is worth noting that the American Society for Addiction Medicine was established in 1954, with the aim of enhancing efforts to combat drug scourge and providing advanced care and treatment services according to visions based on addiction as a chronic disease that requires comprehensive treatment.
