المملكة: On its international day, experts assure “Today” the role of engineering in leadership towards the future with challenge and innovation

After the General Conference of UNESCO announced, during its fortieth session in 2019, March 4 was allocated World Engineering Day, for sustainable development, in a step to break awareness about the fundamental role played by engineering in contemporary life to alleviate climate change and advance sustainable development, especially in Africa and the developing small island countries.
In Saudi Arabia, this occasion coincides with Vision 2030 projects that prove that engineering is not just an academic specialization, but rather a tool for achieving national aspirations, and building a more sustainable and creative world.

The basis of the development of societies

During their conversation with Al -Youm newspaper, engineers and engineers stressed that engineering is not just a traditional profession, but rather the main driver of the development of societies and the construction of the future.
While the sector faces increasing challenges due to the accelerated technology, engineers are required to adapt to transformations, from artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability, to developing infrastructure and innovation in renewable energy.
Experts expected that the engineering sector will witness radical transformations by 2030, the most prominent of which are: Smart Engineering, where artificial intelligence will become an essential component of city design, project management, and huge data analysis.
Also, green engineering, where traditional concepts of waste and emissions will disappear, as recycling and clean energy will be part of any geometric project.

The importance of the construction sector

Rami Khan, an expert in architecture Rami Khan, explained that entering the world of engineering, especially in the construction sector, imposes great challenges, but it polishes skills and adopts experiences that distinguish a successful engineer.
Work in this field is not limited to technical knowledge only, but also requires the speed of learning, the accuracy of implementation, and effective communication with the various work teams.

He pointed out that the work environment in construction projects differs from the traditional sectors, as it combines office planning and field implementation, which imposes on the engineer a high ability to adapt to the changing conditions daily, whether on the site or in the management of resources and communication with customers and suppliers.
He stressed that the transgression of these challenges depends on the possession of soft skills, such as the Department of Communication and the solution of problems effectively, in addition to adhering to honesty, responsibility and continuous learning, stressing that the engineering sector in Saudi Arabia is witnessing an unprecedented boom within the Vision 2030, which enhances innovation in infrastructure and major projects.

Artificial intelligence in engineering

For his part, the researcher in project management, Eng. Hassan Al -Qurashi, indicated that artificial intelligence and robots have become indispensable tools in engineering, as they contribute to accelerating design, analyzing data and carrying out accurate tasks in construction and industrial maintenance.

He explained that this development imposes new challenges, such as the disappearance of some traditional functions and the emergence of other advanced skills in programming and smart systems management, which makes continuous learning an inevitable necessity for engineers who seek to stay in competition.
He also pointed out that Vision 2030 projects, such as NEOM, The Line, and Al -Qadiya, need thousands of engineers in various fields, which opens wide horizons for national cadres, and enhances the empowerment of women in engineering majors, as the Kingdom is witnessing a remarkable increase in the number of engineers working in the sector.

Dealing with global challenges

As for the civil engineer Mustafa Anwar, he stressed that engineering has become the first line of defense in the face of global challenges, whether technological, environmental or economic.
