The discovery of 3 new plants for the first time in the Emirates

The Sharjah Environment and Natural Reserves Authority announced the success of a team of field researchers at the Seed Bank and Sharjah’s grass in the discovery of three new plant types that have not been previously registered in the country.
The new discoveries included the Dirpan plant (DACTYLOCTENIUM AUSTRALE), which is a distinct addition to wild plants in the country, as well as two new types of Saadan are the NEURADA ProCumbens Var. Stellata and (Neurada Proocumbens Var. Al-Eisawii.
Seif Al -Suwaidi, head of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah, confirmed that the discovery of three plant types for the first time in the country reflects the commitment of the authority to conduct tireless efforts in scientific research and protect environmental diversity, noting that the team of researchers specializing in the seed bank and Sharjah grass is implementing an accurate scientific discovery plan using innovative and advanced technologies, through regular field trips aimed at exploring local wild plants, collecting samples Seeds, analyze and documentation.
Protecting biological diversity
She added that this achievement contributes to the consolidation of the success of national efforts in preserving biological diversity and facing environmental challenges, as it enhances Sharjah’s position as a pioneering center in the field of environmental sustainability and ambitious scientific projects, explaining that new plant discoveries that carry unique features open new horizons for scientific studies on its role in desert environmental systems, which enhances Sharjah’s position as a pioneering center in Environmental sustainability.
She expressed her great pride in the efforts of the Sharjah Seed Bank team, which continues to explore the local environment with the aim of expanding the base of scientific knowledge with wild plants, and enhancing research cooperation locally and internationally.
Al -Suwaidi affirmed the commission’s commitment to implement sustainable strategies to protect natural resources, with a focus on enhancing environmental awareness and international cooperation to ensure a sustainable environmental future, as well as continuing to qualify national cadres specialized in field scientific research.
It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Separation Bank is an initiative that opened in the city of Dhaid in 2018, with the aim of preserving rare wild and desert plants.
The bank contributes to the creation of a comprehensive database on plant diversity in the country and has succeeded in discovering many new items for the first time in the Emirates, as well as publishing scientific research in various fields, which contributes to updating the list of plants for the Arabian Peninsula and the red list of extinct plants, and enhances national efforts to preserve natural resources.
