The Ministry of Culture is launched "National Policy for the Preservation of Modern Architectural Heritage"

Abu Dhabi, March 7 / WAM / The Ministry of Culture launched “the national policy for preserving modern architectural heritage”, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of the Ministry of Abu Dhabi, with the participation of a number of officials, experts and those interested in cultural and heritage affairs in the UAE.
This policy aims to develop comprehensive national vision and directions concerned with modern architectural heritage, in order to achieve the Ministry’s strategy towards promoting national identity and promoting cultural heritage, and consolidating the historical and cultural values of this heritage, and supporting innovation and creativity in this field, where architectural features are an essential part of the national identity and elements of the material cultural heritage of the state, as it reflects multiple cultural values that contribute to promoting national cohesion Societal solidarity.
The effectiveness of the launch of national policy included the first extraordinary meeting with the relevant federal and local bodies, to review their efforts in the field of modern architectural heritage, and to discuss ways of cooperation in implementing policy, in addition to setting priorities for initiatives to be implemented during the coming years.
His Excellency Mubarak Al -Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, stressed in his speech that this policy comes within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Ministry to preserve the civilizational and historical monuments that reflect the legitimacy of the national identity of the UAE.
He said that modern architecture is not just buildings, but rather an integral part of the narrative of the place and the identity of the individual, which reflects the story of the development and renaissance of our state, stressing that protecting the modern architectural heritage is a collective responsibility that requires coordination of efforts between the various concerned parties, to preserve this vital heritage and ensure its continuity for future generations.
Shatha Al -Mulla, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of the National Identity and Arts Sector, made a detailed presentation dealing with the goals of the “national policy for preserving modern architectural heritage”, stressing that this policy aims to protect and preserve modern architectural heritage, enhance cooperation between government agencies, academic institutions, public benefit societies, and the private sector, and raise the level of societal awareness, enhance pride in national identity, support education and scientific research, and promote status The global of the UAE in the field of preserving architectural heritage.
She pointed out that the policy will contribute to enhancing cultural tourism by highlighting the architectural value of these buildings and attracting visitors and those interested in the history of architecture, and supporting the sustainable development agenda on economic, environmental, and social levels, locally and globally. The policy also focuses on supporting innovation through encouraging artists and young architects to inspire the architectural heritage in their future designs, in a way that ensures the sustainability of this heritage. Al -Mulla conducted a discussion session entitled “Architectural Memory … Preserving Modern Heritage in the Emirates”, with the participation of a group of experts and specialists who discussed the concept of modern architectural heritage in the context of the UAE, and touched on the challenges and opportunities in this field, and they also reviewed the government efforts to preserve this heritage, and discussed mechanisms for enhancing society’s contribution to these efforts.
The ceremony witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, including the signing of the Charter for the Preservation of Modern Heritage between the relevant authorities in the country, which confirms its commitment to preserving architectural landmarks of cultural value, as well as signing a memorandum of understanding with Zayed University to launch a financing program to support research and studies in the field of modern architectural heritage, which will provide opportunities for students, researchers, architectural academics, artists and those interested in this field, Likewise, with the “Magr” – the National Fund for Social Responsibility, in addition to supporting the project of the national program for granting culture and arts, and a project to support and empower craftsmen that aims to link Emirati craftsmen and integrate them with stakeholders and stakeholders in the industrial sectors to create investment opportunities, in addition to signing a memorandum of understanding with the Architectural Heritage Association, to document buildings of national value in the various emirates of the state, which will contribute to creating a comprehensive database that highlights Buildings of historical and cultural importance.
The launch of this policy comes at a time when the UAE is witnessing an accelerated development in various fields, as it reflects the efforts made in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah to protect modern architectural heritage, which is a model to be followed at the national level.
