UAE -European cooperation in preparation for (COP30) and the 2026 Water Conference

Brussels, March 7 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Balla, Alaa Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, concluded a two -day visit to the European Union in Brussels – the Kingdom of Belgium, during the period from 6 to 7 March 2025, where he met his happiness with a number of senior officials and concerned in the fields of energy and water.
During the meetings, His Excellency stressed the established partnership of the UAE with the European Union, with a focus on harmonizing efforts, enhancing cooperation and progress in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and enhancing the ability to withstand the field of water.
His Excellency’s visit comes in the aftermath of the organizational session of the United Nations Water Conference 2026 held in New York, and coincides with the ocean days of the European Union in Brussels; During the visit, his happiness was invited to participate in the consultative process conducted by the European Union to review the European Union’s strategy to enhance the resilience in the field of water.
During the consultative process, his happiness shed light on the launch of the preparatory process for the United Nations Water Conference 2026, reviewing the UAE’s priorities for the conference, and welcomed the participation of the international community in working to enhance innovative, comprehensive and widely applicable solutions to meet water challenges.
His Excellency affirmed the UAE’s commitment to enhancing its cooperation with the European Union in the areas of climate work, transforming energy, and the ability to withstand the field of water and global sustainability, noting that the discussions that took place in Brussels were essential to pay the obligations concerned with climate air conditioning and energy that were pledged at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on COP28, which was held in the Civil Expo, and guarantee A strong alignment with the European Union before the United Nations Oceanic Conference 2025, the COP30 Parties Conference, and the United Nations Water Conference 2026.
The visit included meetings with a number of European Union officials and the European Investment Bank (EIB), in the context of strengthening relations and exploring opportunities to expand investment in clean energy, infrastructure, and water sustainability, where His Excellency met with Alaa in Detty Jul Julgensen, Director General of the General Directorate of Energy, Florecavink-Hujer, Director General of the General Directorate of the Environment, Cort Vandanderg General Manager The General Directorate of Climate Work, and Charlena Vitchava, Director General of the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, in addition to representatives of European external service.
The meetings focused on pushing joint efforts in the field of water sustainability in preparation for the United Nations Water Conference 2026, and strengthening broader strategies for adaptation and climate mitigation, as well as documenting cooperation in preparation for the United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 to be held in France.
