On Thursday, US President Donald Trump expressed his conviction that the inclusion of his country for Greenland, the Danish region of self -rule, will eventually happen, which will promote “international security”.
“I think it will happen,” the US President said, when receiving at the White House, the Secretary -General of NATO, adding, “We need it for international security.”
“As you know, Mark, we need this for international security, we have many of our favorite actors that roam the coast, and we have to be careful,” he said, in a clear indication of the increasing Chinese and Russian interest in the Arctic region.

Fear of China and Russia

Trump’s threats to Greenland rich in natural resources, the world’s attention, has been grabbed, especially since Trump refused to exclude the use of power to “control the island.”
The Republican billionaire statement comes after a legislative election in Greenland, in which the majority of the 57,000 people of the island voted, in favor of the parties supporting the independence of the island.
For his part, Rawah stressed that he would not interfere in any issue related to Greenland’s accession to the United States, and said, “I do not want to drag NATO to this matter.”
But the Secretary -General pointed out that “when it comes to the maximum north and the northern pole, you are completely right, the Chinese use these roads now. We know that the Russians reinforce themselves, we know that we have a shortage of ice sweepers.”
He added, “From here, the fact that seven countries, with the exception of Russia, operate seven countries in the Arctic, working together, led by the United States, is it very important to ensure the survival of that region, that part of the world, safe.”
