China calls for the protection of its students in America after a congressional procedure
The move comes after a Congress committee asked six American universities to provide a large amount of detailed information about its Chinese students, due to concerns related to national security.
Chinese students in America
A letter he sent to universities – including the universities of Stanford and Carnegie Mellon – said that the Chinese government is in progress in prestigious American institutions, in order to access directly sensitive techniques.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that Chinese students are estimated at about a quarter of the total number of foreign students in the United States.
American national security
The Chinese Foreign Ministry explained that their activities have strengthened “economic prosperity and technological development of the United States.”
“This is in the interest of both parties … we urge the United States to stop excessive expansion of the concept of national security, to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students effectively, and not to impose discriminatory restrictions on them.”
