A new commercial agreement is expected between Canada and the United States next May

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Friday that his country will start talks with the United States on a new trade agreement in early May.
Carney warned that President Donald Trump launched to influence the labor market in Canada.

Customs duties between America and Canada

The announcement came in Ottawa after Carney stopped his campaign for the elections scheduled for April 28 to meet the cabinet members who are working on relations with.
In his only phone call to Trump since he took the position of Prime Minister on March 14, Carney and the American President agreed to discuss future trade relations after the elections.
The Canadian Prime Minister confirmed on Friday that the talks will start within weeks.
He said that he is working to ensure that the next Canadian government is “in the best possible situation for negotiations with the United States, which as we and the president agreed, will start from early May.”

Carney warned that the commercial conflict leads to “tightening financial conditions, and preliminary signs of the slowdown in the global economy” and has negative effects “in the Canadian labor market.”

The effect of American customs duties on Canada

Canadian exports in the auto, steel, aluminum sector and other commodities are currently under American customs duties. Thousands of Canadian workers have been reduced in the auto sector.
Canada, the largest commercial partner of the United States, responded by imposing fees on specific American products.
Opinion polls indicate that the liberal Carney party is on its way to win the upcoming elections, but expectations may change in the last weeks of the campaign.
